The 262D3 is Cat's vertical-lift wheeled skid steer in the mid-seventies-horsepower class, sold and supported through the national Cat dealer network — which gives used buyers unusually deep parts and service coverage for this class of machine. Its vertical-lift geometry targets truck loading and materials handling, and the sealed pressurised cab option made it popular with civil contractors, councils and waste operations. Factory telematics were standard, so genuine hour readings can often be verified against dealer records — a real advantage second-hand. The series has since been replaced by Cat's next-generation loaders, pushing more D3 machines onto the market; high-flow units and counterweighted machines trade at different money than base spec, so compare like for like.

What Moves the Price
Attachment bundle
A 4-in-1 bucket, forks and an auger drive turn one machine into three. Machines sold with a genuine attachment set clear bare machines comfortably.
Tracks over wheels
Tracked machines carry a visible premium in the used market — soft-ground ability sells. The trade-off is track replacement cost, so track condition gets priced hard.
High-flow + cab
High-flow hydraulics run the serious attachments, and an enclosed air-conditioned cab widens the buyer pool. Both lift resale.
Tracks, tyres & pins
Worn tracks or bald tyres are the first thing a buyer quotes against the price. Loose pins and a rattly quick-hitch follow straight after.
